Maldives Diving

Why scuba in the Maldives?

The Maldives is famous for its clear warm waters, colourful coral reefs, and rich marine life. Its underwater mountain ranges, with valleys stretching thousands of metres below the water’s surface, have made it one of the world’s best scuba diving locations.

As well as the obvious underwater wonders encapsulated by the 26 Maldivian atolls, the outer links of this chain of reefs are a diver’s delight! The Maldives is the world’s lowest country and, with an average ground-level elevation of 1.5 metres, many ships have fallen victim to its shallow coral formations. With so many options, even the most adventurous diver will be in awe of this unique location!

What can I see scuba diving in the Maldives?

Dive among the shipwrecks or explore the pinnacles, overhangs, coral gardens, and caves within the atoll lagoons. The marine life here is extensive. Dive amongst tropical fish, sponges and coral, or follow the channels to reefs housing bigger marine life.

A major draw-card attracting divers to the Maldives is the chance to swim alongside sharks and rays. Swim alongside the ocean’s gentle giants, the whale sharks, or float under spotted eagle rays and manta rays. Other big fish and sharks to look out for include the humphead wrasse, grey reef sharks, whitetip reef sharks, blacktip reef sharks, and hammerhead sharks.
